How does MyVote work?

MyVote allows users to vote on and rank participants in contests. Only the most recent submission counts, so voters can change their minds as often as they like. Votes are aggregated by category and the most current rankings are displayed on the results screen.

The methodology used to calculate points for each participant is called the modified Borda count (MBC). The MBC is a consensus electoral voting model where voters rank candidates in order of their preference. It is used to determine the Most Valuable Player in Major League Baseball, by the Associated Press and United Press International to rank teams in NCAA sports and to determine the winner of the Heisman Trophy. For details on how the calculation works please see the FAQ - How do you calculate results? or the MBC Wikipedia entry.

Where did MyVote come from?

MyVote was created by Social Pariah Solutions Inc., an information technology & software development company started by Ken Constable. MyVote is a service that allows businesses and organizations to sponsor contests or surveys.

It was originally conceived of to vote on Pipe Band Competitions for which Ken has been a competitor for over 20 years. He recognized the desire by competitors and spectators alike to discuss results and share their opinions on the outcome of contests. He observed that most of these discussions and opinions were shared in beer tents, forums or chat rooms and on Facebook after the contest was over. But what if you could share your opinions live, as the contest progressed and aggregate all opinions to get a consensus?

The vision of MyVote is to provide a platform for both competitors and spectators to participate in contests by sharing opinions and aggregating voting results in real time.
